There are nine boarding groups on American Airlines which range from Group 1 to 9.

Group 1: First Class, Active Duty U.S. Military, Business Class (2-cabin)
Group 2: AAdvantage Executive Platinum, oneworld Emerald
Group 3: AAdvantage Platinum Pro, oneworld Sapphire
Group 4: AAdvantage Platinum, oneworld Ruby, AirPass
Group 5: AAdvantage Gold, Citi Executive cardholders, Premium Economy
Group 6: Citi Platinum Select, Aviator Red cardholders, Alaska MVP/Gold members
Group 7: Main Cabin Extra, AA corporate travelers, Priority boarding
Group 8: General Main Cabin
Group 9: is reserved for basic economy passengers within the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
